TCL Valencia 2012

International Conference on Textile Coating and Laminating 2012

Valencia Conference Centre, Valencia, Spain, 15-16 November 2012

The conference TCL has been very successful. Participants came from all the Techtex Industries from Europe, Asia to Australia. I personally arrived late because I have had a lecture in Turkey and my time schedule was very tight. When my airplane landed in Valencia I have had only 30 minutes before my lecture started.

I spoke about the ”Eco Applicator”, a cost effective double side kiss coater.

VDMA Symposium Turkey

Veröffentlicht am 26.11.2012

VDMA is the German organization for textile machine manufacturers. They held a symposium about Technical textiles in Istanbul and Gaziantep.

No one knows today why the Turkish customers have been not that interested about this topic. Maybe the textile business in Turkey is different and the typical textile manufacturer is no longer interested about investment in this technical field or they do something totally new, not related to textiles?

Altogether there have been around 200 visitors which is disappointing.

Composites Europe 2012

Veröffentlicht am 15.10.2012
Duesseldorf 2012
Composites Europe 2012 takes place in a new fairground. The Duesseldorf Centre is modern, clean and much more professional than the older exhibition grounds. Nevertheless the exhibition itself shrinked again.

The conference was in my opinion very interesting and networking was, like always, the more important part of the show. If you want to see exhibitors in the field of composites from machine producers up to the final product you should plan to visit JEC in Paris 2013.

Two very different partners released a new progammable t-shirt. The sqare in the front of the shirt works like a display and shows rough pictures or any text you desire. This is a joint venture between Ballantines and CuteCurcuit.

You may know the t-shirts which shows the strengt of the WIFI in the area you are in, but this one is much better and new. You edit the display with your smartphone or computer, very elegant and flexible.

Bomb safe textile for aircrafts

Veröffentlicht am 25.07.2012

Funded by the European government, leading textile institutes and private entities developed a flexible textile bag for the luggage compartment of aircrafts. The final product is now available under the name: FLY-BAG.

The research consortium has developed a hybrid textile-composite luggage container with blast containment capabilities, protecting the airframe and passengers, exploiting high strength technical textiles and energy absorbing composites. The FLY-BAG container is light, flexible and comes with a good market price; it is also suitable for narrow body aircrafts.

Prototypes have been successfully assembled and tested in loading operations on an Airbus A319 in November 2010; full scale blast tests have been performed in January 2011. The outcome was a complete success, with a FLY-BAG prototype able to resist four consecutive blasts of increasing energy, up to a level that would certainly cause the collapse of an airplane. The prototype was substantially intact and maintained all its functionalities after the blasts, although everything inside was completely crumpled.

Do you know Rubia natural colours?

Veröffentlicht am 19.07.2012
In my research for news in the textile field, I recently found Rubia Natural Colours from the Netherlands.

They cultivate their own selected plants for producing natural dyestuffs, like madder root etc. They cover most of the colour rainbow for textile dyeing. This is an improvement for the farmers as well, because they can leave the more and more monoculture of crops.
